IM Andranik Matikozyan

USCF 2518
FIDE 2459

Andranik Matikozyan enters this tournament on a roll, having achieved his second GM norm in May at the 27th Metropolitan GM round robin. That’s disturbing news for his opponents, who know how dangerous Andranik can be when he has the initiative. He is the deadliest attacker in the field.

Matikozyan has won the state championship three times (2003, 2005, and 2006) in five tries. He also has two victories in the Southern California Open. His best national result was a tie for first place in the 2004 US Open.

Andranik has become a regular participant in Ankit Gupta’s series of Metropolitan Chess tournaments, taking first prize in five round robins. He also works as a teacher at American Chess Academy and serves as trainer to prodigy Samuel Sevian.
